Sailing and rowing have historically been considered sports for the elite. Now they attract all-comers. In fact, rowing is fast becoming one of the Northwest’s more popular “lifetime sports”. It’s something one can start in high school and keep up through life.

Located just east of Columbia City on the shore of Lake Washington at Stan Sayres Park, the Mount Baker Rowing and Sailing Center is open to anyone interested in learning about water safety, rowing, sailing, kayaking, and wind surfing, regardless of income level or physical ability.

About two-thirds of those who use the center live in the neighborhood with the remainder coming to the center from all over Seattle and beyond.

Novice and varsity competitive rowing from middle-school through high-school-aged teens consistently produces championship rowers, many of whom are heavily recruited by college and university rowing programs. The center also hosts two annual rowing regattas — the Seattle Sprints Regatta in the spring and the Tri-Mountain Regatta in the fall.

The Mount Baker Rowing and Sailing Center is like having a yacht club open to everyone right in the neighborhood.
