Platform

Brian Goldbloom

The artist and station designers worked together to integrate granite art and design details throughout the station. Granite storm water basins and seatingstones will greet those arriving on the platform. Carved granite channels will disburse storm water from shelter roofs, drawing connections between the natural systems of nature and the man-made light rail system. For waiting passengers, granite boulders between the tracks will serve as objects for contemplation and as gentle, protective reminders against crossing the tracks.

Myrtle Plaza

"Rainier Valley Haiku"
Roger Shimomura

A 14-foot-high totem of steel and fiberglass objects metaphorically represents the artist's own immigrant experience as well as the universal immigrant experience. Four poets of diverse ethnic backgrounds wrote haiku responding to their interpretation of the sculpture. Those poems will be etched on metal plaques and attached to the base. With this as a backdrop, the plaza could potentially become a neighborhood poetry corner with readings and other poetry related activities.

Othello South Plaza

"Come Dance with Me"
Augusta Asberry

A series of lyrical and flowing African female figures will dance along the plaza landscaping. The figures, up to eight feet tall, will be cut from plate steel.
