Myrtle Plaza
"Rainier Valley Haiku"
Roger Shimomura
A 14-foot-high totem of steel and fiberglass objects metaphorically
represents the artist's own immigrant experience as well as
the universal immigrant experience. Four poets of diverse
ethnic backgrounds wrote haiku responding to their interpretation
of the sculpture. Those poems will be etched on metal plaques
and attached to the base. With this as a backdrop, the plaza
could potentially become a neighborhood poetry corner with
readings and other poetry related activities. |
