Platform
“A Relic in the Garden”
Gale McCall
Two 22-foot-long by 9-foot high bronze magnifying glasses with metal filigree
as their “lens” will incorporate images from the neighborhood. The artwork
is intended to examine, exaggerate, investigate and enlarge our view of
life. In addition, four woven metal baskets at the entries to the station
will be illuminated from within to create a welcoming beacon for passengers.

North Plaza
“Garden Variety”
Victoria Fuller
A giant 35-foot-tall shovel with its tip buried in the earth,
will be the focal point in this landscaped plaza. The shovel
will be made of sculpted and cast bronze vegetables, fruits,
and flowers from around the world, serving as a metaphor for
how migration and immigration have shaped this neighborhood.

South Plaza
“Pride”
Norie Sato
Ten stone lion sculptures will guard the south plaza. The “welcome” lions,
often seen as guardians at front gates and doors in many different cultures,
will be customized to reflect different aspects of the Rainier Valley. |
System Buildings Screen Wall
"Glass Windows"
Juan Alonso
A series of five cut metal and glass
“windows” in the screen wall will present color and sinewy organic plant forms
that enhance the station’s garden theme. At night, the windows will be backlit,
evoking the safety and comfort of home and garden, existing peacefully with
the pride of lions. |
