The Braid is a system-wide artwork that
incorporates two aspects.
(a) Tiles incorporating the image of a braid
will be the tactile way-finding element on the station platforms.
This artwork was designed in collaboration with Sound Transit
Citizen's Advisory Accessibility Committee.
(b) The entrance to each LINK Station will
have a tall metal marker with a three strand, braid-like shape.
Cultural Storyboards
Metal cutout panels, about nine feet wide and seven
to eight feet high, will be installed between poles in
six locations along the corridor. Each "storyboard"
will be different, created by six artists from diverse
cultural backgrounds.
Hudson Retaining Wall
"Sound of Light," Dick Elliott
Artist Dick Elliott will create a sense of surprise
by adding colorful, patterned panels made of layers
of circular reflectors, participating in the cultural
conversation through the universal language of
pattern. Elliott collaborated with the landscape
architect to create a sense of rhythm and harmonic
relationship between the landscape and wall.
The result will be a magical, glowing wall that
constantly changes as you move along it.
Walden Street Systems Building Screening Barbara Thomas
A four-panel cut and forged metal artwork will screen
the systems building from the street. The artwork
will consist of images and text that tell the story of
"how the crows created the earth from lightning."
Overhead Contact System Poles (OCS) Dan Corson And Norie Sato
All poles in the corridor, except those at stations,
will incorporate a specially designed top to reinforce
the identity of the system and create a unique
element for the Rainier Valley.
