Columbia City Fitness ... New Name and Great News. Bull and Flo Stewart changed the name of their fitness center, and Bull reports that the response has been very positive. People seem to like getting exercise at "Columbia City Fitness".

Salon Adidez Serves Thanksgiving Meal. Again this year, Zed organized other Columbia City volunteers and provided a veritable feast at her South Edmunds Street salon on Thanksgiving Day for about 40 people needing a good meal and warm companionship. Contributions came from Michael (Parcel and Post), Jim (Bob' s Meats), Nancy (Matthiesen's Florist), Evan and Julie (La Medusa and Columbia City Bakery), and James (Post Office).

Columbia City Business to be Sold. Nancy Bratton has put out word that she's reached an agreement to sell Matthiesen's Florist. The new owners (neighborhood residents) will continue to sell flowers, but also offer stationary and greeting cards. Your Get the Beat reporter has sniffed around enough to be confident that the new shop will be a great addition to the business district. Expect the sale to happen on March 1.

Narnia to Run through Christmas. Paul Doyle says you can catch the Chronicles of Narnia through December 29, and he heartily recommends Cinema gift certificates.

Coming Soon... Not Your Usual Bah Humbug. December 15-24, Rainier Valley Ensemble Theater will present a series of short plays inspired by visual art. It's entitled THEATERFEST 2005. Two weekends, Thursday through Sunday, at the Rainier Valley Cultural Center. Check out www.rvetheatre.org for details.

Business Association Names New Officers for 2006. Outgoing President Rob Mohn announced election results at the CCBA?s December 6 meeting. Joan Robbins (Columbia City Gallery) will take over as president; Renee Morgan (Tutta Bella) will be vice-president; Diane Skwiercz (VelDyke Realty) will take over Joan's job as secretary; and Pam Stokes (Hasegawa Dentistry) will stay on as treasurer. Karen Skillings (Washington Federal) will continue to head the Membership Committee, while other committee leadership positions will be decided in January. Mohn reportedly was relieved that he could return to duty on the Columbia City Clean Team, where the real action is.
